Begin Again - John Carney

Begin again

Hi everyone !

Yesterday I saw 'Begin Again', and when the film finished I was like "Omg I want to talk about it on the Wave !".

'Begin Again' is not just a boring romantic comedy that you will forget. But to understand, you need to see it ! I love this film because it is natural and musical (by the way the soundtrack is amazing too).

The story : Dan Mulligan (Mark Ruffalo) is a record label executive living in New York City who is estranged from his wife Miriam (Catherine Keener) and struggling to keep up with the changing music industry. After being fired from his job, he goes on a drinking binge which leads him to a bar in the East Village where he encounters Gretta James (Keira Knightley, who does her own singing), a young and fiercely independent songwriter who has just broken up with her long-time boyfriend and songwriting partner Dave Kohl (Adam Levine), a successful musician who had an affair with one of his producers. Captivated by Gretta's music, Dan offers to sign her to his former record label, and although she initially refuses, she reconsiders the offer and agrees.

'Begin Again' is an ode to music and to New York. In the film, we see the characters playing music in New York, for New York. The album (made by Gretta and Dan) is pure and authentic : it talks about Gretta, her feelings and her story. She expresses herself with music. That's why Dan spotted Gretta : she's authentic, like her music.
These characters are not overrated by the film director, they could be real, Dan and Gretta have some feelings that we could have.

At the end of the film, we see that thanks to their friendship, these Dan and Gretta can "begin again", and they start a new long way.

Before seeing the film, I was a little bit depressed, but now I am re-motivated. So I just want to say "thank you" to 'Begin Again' !

I hope you like my article, see you later :) !

Say (All I need) - OneRepublic

Hi !

I just want to talk about a song that I love : 'Say' by One Republic because the melody is touching me and the lyrics too.
First of all, I like the band since a long time ! The singer's voice is amazing and their style of music is very unique. One Republic is an American pop rock band from Colorado. The band is formed in 1996 by Ryan Tedder (lead vocals) and Zach Filkins (lead guitar). They were discovered in 2006 thanks to MySpace ! The song 'Say' is come from the album 'Dreaming Out Loud' (their first album).
To my mind, this song is just ethereal.
I think that 'Say', is my favourite song of this album.

Then, the official music video was filmed in France, Paris. Moreover, we can see that the music video was filmed partially in black and white.

Ryan Tedder has given this explanation for the meaning of the song : "This song is about being happy with what you have in life, and not obsessing over what you don't have. Whether it's a person or relationship, love, or success, or even fame." "We wanted to make a piece of art and do something beautiful and inspiring," said Tedder.

The flowers

In paintings, the artists convey messages, or develop the story thanks to the representation of flowers.
Millais, in his painting, Ophelia, painted a red poppy representing the death and the sleep of Ophelia,
who had drowned.

Other example : In the "vanitas" (stil life), the tulip represents love, and so in vanitas it's ephemeral love and the  fleeting quality of life.

V for Vendetta - by James McTeigue

Hello!

Today, I want to talk about a film : 'V for Vendetta' because I saw it on Thursday evening! This film was directed by James McTeigue and written by 'The Wachowski Brothers' : the film is based on the 1982 comic book of the same name by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. The scene takes place in London in a near future dystopian society in the 2030's. At the beginning, the spectator follows Evey Hammond's character (played by Natalie Portman). But the central figure of the film is 'V' : a charismatic freedom fighter (played by Hugo Weaving). He leads a fight for the freedom and against the oppression by government. Because at that time, London is under a fascist government. Political prisoners, homosexuals and other undesirables are imprisoned in concentration camps. In the evening of November the 5th, 'V' meets Evey Hammond. On the very evening, 'V' organise an explosion and that announce the beginning of many events..
He wants to show to her the 'hidden face' of the fascist government.

That is a fascinating film! There is a lot of suspense and I love it! There is a connection between Evey and 'V', it's very intense. 'V' is full of hatred against the fascist government, but he is a gentle person with Evey. As we go along, 'V' becomes a protector for Evey. Evey is played by Natalie Portman, she is a very good actress, and she embodies the character with grace and intensity.
In the film, there is a dark atmosphere and I like the scenery. I like the costume and the mask of 'V' because they make a mysterious impression. In the film, the 'V's mask is a symbol of rebellion against the power.

So, you can give me your opinion about that film!

Good bye!

Music : Imagine Dragons - 'It's time'

Hello!
Today, I want to talk about a band : Imagine Dragons.
Imagine Dragons is an American alternative rock band based in Las Vegas, Nevada. The group's name is an anagram, so that is a pun. My favourite song (of this band) is 'It's time' (you can watch the video undermentioned) is about a young man who wants to make a new start. In the chorus, he says :

'It's time to begin, isn't it?
I get a little bit bigger, but then I'll admit
I'm just the same as I was
Now don't you understand
That I'm never changing who I am'

This song makes me happy, and it makes me want to sing!
When I'm listening this song, I'm feeling a breath of fresh air..

So..give me your opinion about it!

Hello and good reading!

Barbe bleue

Amélie Nothomb is a young Belgian author. She wrote Barbe bleue in 2012, this novel is her 21st. She wrote too for example: Stupeur et Tremblement in 1999 and Cosmetique de l'ennemi in 2001.
Her novel is a rewrite of the fairytale written by Charles Perrault.
It tells the story of Saturine Puissant young professor of art at the Louvre, responded to an ad colocation. She discovers a luxurious, surprising and macabre world of Spanish aristocrat Don Elemirio Nibal Milcar. He makes a different dress at each roommate, who are disappearing shortly after. For Saturnine, he makes dress with the champagne color.

I think this rewrite shows that even today, fairytales still inspire us!

Have you read also this book? :)
